Jim Van Slyke comes to DC in grand style with his critically-acclaimed show, “The Sedaka Show,” celebrating the music of pop icon Neil Sedaka. Jim lights up the stage with this intoxicating tribute to pop music legend Neil Sedaka and five decades of top 40 hits.

Conceived and directed by Tony-nominated singer/actor Brian Lane Green, “The Sedaka Show” features Jim’s beautiful voice and charm with the intimate melodies of Neil Sedaka, including “Laughter in the Rain,” “Hungry Years,” “Solitaire,” and classic Sedaka hits like “Oh Carol,” “Breaking Up Is Hard to Do,” “Happy Birthday, Sweet Sixteen,” “Where the Boys Are,” and the blockbuster hit, “Love Will Keep Us Together.”

With musical arrangements by award-winning musical director Tim DiPasqua, this tour de force trio have created a magnificent evening of Neil Sedaka favorites, lost gems, and a few surprises!

THE SEDAKA SHOW RETURNS TO WASHINGTON DC
To Kick Start the 10th Season of “Maggies Cabaret” Concert Series

with the BRILLIANT Howard Breitbart at the piano!

Maggie’s Cabaret is is located at St. Margaret’s Episcopal Church – 1830 Connecticut Avenue, NW, Washington, DC, 20009. Cost is $20 and includes the show, a glass of wine or soda, and light refreshments. Proceeds go to the church’s general fund.

The CD showcases music from Van Slyke’s critically acclaimed Sedaka Show, which Mr. Sedaka first saw him perform at the Laurie Beechman Theater in New York City. Impressed and touched, Sedaka offered his assistance and a ringing endorsement:

The Sedaka Sessions repertoire was culled from 50+ years of Sedaka’s legendary collaborations with Howard Greenfield and Phil Cody (the single exception being “Workin’ on a Groovy Thing” which was written with Roger Atkins). Van Slyke’s fresh readings of the timeless tunes make you wonder why you don’t hear brilliant songs like The Hungry Years, Laughter in the Rain and Solitaire more often. The icing on the cake is Mr. Sedaka’s appearance the CD, with duets on “Brighton” and “The Immigrant.”

Van Slyke worked extensively on the repertoire of the live Sedaka Show with co-creator, Brian Lane Green, and then musical arranger, Tim DiPasqua, sharing hundreds of song possibilities and ideas about pacing, tempos, lyrics etc. It was a true collaboration based on Sedaka’s entire pop oeuvre, with Van Slyke and Green researching and compiling the song choices, and DiPasqua and Van Slyke working out the arrangements. When it came time to record, DiPasqua and Van Slyke were pretty much ready, save a few adjustments from a “live” vibe to pop – recording sound.

“Because my live show had been, thankfully, so successful, The Sedaka Sessions seemed like a natural,” says Van Slyke. “I am so grateful to everyone who made this possible, and for Neil’s unwavering support. It’s pretty thrilling to imagine what the next chapter will bring.”

Still riding high from the run and closing night. What a thrill to sing with Neil again, to reunite with my amazingly talented friend Terese Genecco for a duet and to have Michael Feinstein there was awesome. Truly grateful for the brilliance of Tim DiPasqua, Brian Lane Green, all at Feinsteins, Michael Feinstein for inviting me to perfrom at his club to begin with and to Neil and Leba Sedaka for the support, love and friendship! SOMEONE PINCH ME!
